2017 Truckee River Source To Sea
This June Rivers for Change will travel the entire length of the Truckee river while reaching out to communities, organizations, and schools along the way. The 150 mile journey will begin on the Upper Truckee River on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe, across Lake Tahoe, and continue along the entire Truckee River from Tahoe City to its terminus in Pyramid Lake, Nevada. As in past Source to Sea projects, a key objective of this trip is to engage communities, organizations, and schools within the watershed and along the river through hands on interaction and adventure.  In taking part in this adventure communities will  learn about the unique ecological values and conservation efforts affecting their backyard river, within the context of the entire watershed.

Core Team and Guest Paddlers
A small core team will be formed to complete the entire journey, including several long endurance paddles, as well as up to Class IV whitewater. There will be numerous opportunities for guest paddlers to participate on key legs of this journey floating through beautiful meandering meadow/wetland reaches, a scenic paddle along the west shore of Lake Tahoe, as well as navigating some fun whitewater sections between Tahoe City and Reno.

Student Ambassadors
The Truckee StS adventure will engage with schools throughout the watershed through dynamic in-class presentations, and out of classroom events along the river to facilitate in-depth interaction with a variety of river/watershed stewardship partners.  In addition, a team of student ambassadors representing multiple schools located along the Truckee River watershed will be formed to complete several key legs of the source to sea journey.
